A Fall Walk

A Walk in the Fall - Living Vintage

A few weeks ago, after four straight days of rain (and more coming), the sun broke free for a few hours.

Mark and I were already going a little stir crazy, so when we saw the sun, we made a dash into town to buy some groceries and take a walk with our two dogs.

Nacogdoches (pronounced Nack – eh – doe -chez) is about 20 miles down the road for us.

It’s such a pretty town.  The City and the university located there, Stephen F. Austin State University, have set aside hundreds of acres for recreational use, including several miles of hiking and biking trails.

That particular day, we decided to take a walk on LaNana Creek Trail.

The Fall colors were so pretty, and I made sure to take my camera.  I haven’t shared many photos of the countryside around here, and I intend to remedy that.

Several yards off the paved parking, it felt like we were miles into wilderness.

I’m sure Mark was thinking, “Come on, Woman!  We are here to walk, not take photos for the blog!”

I’m kidding, of course.

Mark is Mr. Super Laid Back.  For the most part, he’s pretty much fine with whatever I want to do.

Photography is Mark’s chosen profession, and my hobby and we both took our time to shoot these photos.

We came across a small cemetery which I totally wasn’t expecting.

No one has been buried there in a long, long time.  All of the gravestones were several decades old.

On the way home, we turned off the main road and drove down a small dirt road.  Mark captured this image which is the prettiest one of the day, I think.

We also photographed a tree that Mark had spotted on the way home from our Crockett job one evening.

Mark played with three of the above photos in Photoshop, and I wanted to share those with you also.

I hope you enjoyed our Fall walk with us!  No huffing and puffing required.

Great pictures. Parts of Texas remind me a lot of WV, esp. in the Austin area. A dear friend of mine is a TX native (Columbia Gas), and she graduated from Stephen Austin. 🙂

I know! This area reminds me a lot of Florida and South Carolina. It’s nothing like where I grew up (West Texas). In fact, when my Mom visited she said, “This doesn’t even look like Texas.”

Lovely! Now I have had a little peek at the countryside in Nacogdoches…a little armchair travelling!

Beautiful pictures. East Texas is truly a hidden gem.
I love the name Emeline that was on the gravestone.

Thank you so much, Marilyn. I, too, love the name Emmeline (or Emeline). I read a book once with that same title. Beautiful, sad story. Highly recommended if you like to read!
