Not Your Typical Flea Market Purchase

Have you heard of Canton First Mondays?  Canton is only a few hours away and we’d planned on going to a First Monday show for months, but other commitments always got in the way . . . until recently.

I bought a vintage toolbox that I’m going to use to store sewing supplies.  It will definitely add a touch of red to my “one day” craft room.

We also scored about 200 square feet of vintage tin.  Where or when we’ll use it, I don’t know, but I can never seem to pass it up.  It’s just too hard to find.

Some pieces are rustier than others, but they’re all the same design.

I also bought one pillow.  (This is the shopping trip that convinced me to buy a sewing machine.)

We also came home with a 1986 travel trailer.

Certainly not your typical flea market buy.

You know how you just know a good deal when you see it?

We had shopped seriously for travel trailers in the past — we knew having one would be handy for salvage projects and antique shows.  However, we could never quite make ourselves pay the thousands of dollars for an something we knew we would use only a few times a year.

It’s a 1986 model in pristine condition.  We were both impressed that it was in such good shape, despite its age.  The seller told us that the original owner had kept it in a barn for many years.

We had it checked out by an RV dealership last week and they found only a few minor things wrong with it.

Still, we hemmed and hawed for a while before deciding to buy it.  I mean, who buys a travel trailer at a flea market?

I can’t wait to add some of our vintage character to it.

I will say that a road trip is definitely in our immediate future.

Love Canton! You can really get some good deals in the “off” months like August or January. They are willing to bargain because they are soo hot and tired or freezing!

We will definitely be going back periodically, that’s for sure especially now that we have our camper! 🙂

I’ve written before to tell you that are my fav blogger as we have very similar tastes. But when you posted the trailer I know we just have to meet someday. I had the exact trailer. We bought it in 1988 or so. It was a couple of years old. We travelled the states with it. On a family Canadian trip we slept 7 in it every night. Every time we get together we laugh about that crowded but fun filled trailer vacation. We passed it down to one of the kids and it is still going strong. I send good karma your way to have the best memories.
Ps I took the mirrors down. Really. Who wants to look at yourself that much. Show pics.

Oh, how funny and ironic! I will think of you as we start to take our trips. Looking forward to have some crowded family fun in our trailer, too. We don’t have children, but I’m sure my mom and sister will want to stay with us at antique shows!

Thanks for being such a huge fan of my blog!

Love Canton! You can find the most unique things there. I’ve never seen a travel trailer before though. Wow, I’m impressed! Looking forward to seeing the vintage added to it!

Your new trailer is very cool in a 1980’s sort of way! Love it!

The travel trailer is, indeed, a great find…but my jaw dropped at the tin. I’ve found it pretty hard to get my hands on some in any real quantity, too. When I do find it, people are really overcharging for it…even at some of the flea markets. I believe that the same folks who run the Canton market have one in McKinney and Bowie as well. Of course, on different weekends.

Yeah, we saw some at Canton that was priced ridiculously high. We feel quite fortunate when we are able to find a good amount of the same type for a reasonable price. We have been stockpiling it for a construction project one day.
