Abandoned in Rockdale

Abandoned in RockdaleWe spotted this abandoned house on the way back home from a quick delivery trip to Johnson City.

Abandoned in RockdaleI glimpsed the house as we drove through Rockdale. We made the block to check it out.

Abandoned in RockdaleAs I always seem to do, I wondered why anyone would let such a beautiful house fall into disrepair.    Perhaps a job loss, illness, a death in the family . . . all plausible explanations.

Abandoned in RockdaleMaybe its massive size contributed to the decision.

Abandoned in RockdaleThe old house sits on a large lot that is almost completely overgrown with vines and weeds.

No great surprise there – I’ve rarely seen an abandoned house with a well-kept yard.

Abandoned in RockdaleIn some places, the brick was barely visible.

Abandoned in Rockdale

Abandoned in RockdaleStill, there was so much beauty to behold.  This wrought iron gate caught my eye.

Maybe you might know someone in Texas who might like to save this old gem?

Abandoned in RockdaleAs we were driving away, we spotted this little house next door, also abandoned.

Abandoned in RockdaleIt was poorly constructed, but had a patchwork collection of stained glass windows at the front of the house.

I would so love to see how the inside is…… Love the stained glass windows in the little house next door. The old metal patio set at the old red brick house, and it’s sweet gate, memories of a home for someone in it’s past.

Oh Kim this breaks my heart. I too would love to see the inside of this house. It still has curtains in the windows and the fencing is beautiful! It appears someone just left for a while and never came back. Would love to know what happened there. If I were you I would try to investigate, but I am the nosy sort. 🙂

    Blessings

I hope there might be a possibility that you, or another old house lover, could save them both!

Wish I lived a little closer to Rockdale, I’m about 150 miles from there. I have always wanted to take on a project like this, but I think it might be a little TOO much of a project.

    Both *amazing* houses.
I’ve got my eye on an older one near me similar to the first one that has been abandoned for as long as I can remember. It’s a grand old house that is just falling further away. Luckily, I have a “connection” person with the owner and found out he’s considering selling it all off. We’re supposed to get first crack at it before (if) he does sell at and someone bulldozes it down.
    Shame, really.

This house burned down folks sorry, this was the oldest house in rockdale built for a wealthy mans daughter who never moved into it when the land around it was just pastures, I had been in the house and it was remarkably beautiful.
